At Vision 3, I worked on a project, Song of the Sea VR, that served as a VR counterpart to the 2014 animated film. This project placed users in a 3D environment based on scenes from the film that told a story around them.
Objectives
When I came onto this project, much of the design had been completed, and I was given two objectives.
- Tools: Allow the designers to create a timeline of events and setpieces in the scene such that they would unfold properly before them. I solved this by using scriptable objects and editor sccripts.
- Optimisation: The primary objetive, however, was to do this as efficiently as possible. There were a huge amount of assets for this project, and it was required to run on GearVR. I solved this by making use of plugins such as AVPro, and general Unity and coding optimisation techniques.
